Summer Staff 2012 Arrives!

The Sweet Sight of Summer
Apr 20
The past month at Look Up Lodge has been C-R-A-Z-Y. People have been flying, projects have been constructed, and God has had His hand in it all. Even this quiet Friday morning will soon turn into pandemonium. This weekend is Summer Staff Orientation 2012. This is the weekend each year where Look Up Lodge brings in the best-of-the-best college age students to serve as your summer staffers. Also this weekend, plans will be made, skits will be created, and just down right strokes of awesomeness will accrue. Pray for this weekend as God begins to unite all the servants in ministry here at camp.
Anyone remember the huge pile of muck located where the old ball courts used to be this past summer? Well we all do, and thats why we decided to take that eyesore and create a brand new basketball/outdoor facility which is 99.999999999999999999982325% complete. When the new ball courts were almost finished we decided to make a few simple changes that would reap great rewards. The ball courts are on track and will easily make the summer camp 2012 deadline.
Check back frequently for more blog updates as summer quickly approaches!
Sincerely,
Look Up Lodge Programing Team

The highly anticipated new basketball area has arrived!
As January 23, 2012 arrived so did a few staff members and their families at Look Up Lodge for the 3rd Annual Polar Bear Plunge. The time read 4:56 on the evening of 1-23, hence 123456, and the plunging began. We call this event the “Polar Bear” plunge because polar bears can survive up to -50 degrees F in arctic environments. It just seems natural that if you are going to dive into a 40 degree lake you might as well call it a polar bear plunge.

Sarah’s Shirt
Jan 26
Last week we received an email all the way from Ghana, Africa! Sarah Garrett and family traveled to Ghana to truly show the love of the Father and further advance the Kingdom of God. Thank you Sarah for being willing and truly letting your “shirt talk”. The following are photos and the exact email we received from Sarah herself. Please leave a word of encouragement or support to Sarah, Andrew, and their family as they continue impact the world.
“Hi!
I have come to Look Up Lodge the past two summers, and my brother went for the first time last year. We both love it and are very excited about coming this year.
Eleven years ago, my family along with another started an organization in Ghana, Africa called the Father’s House. In January of 2011, eight boys were rescued out of child slavery on Lake Volta in Ghana. This January, my brother and I had the blessing of going to Ghana and meeting the boys. Ever since we saw the first post about “If Your Shirt Could Talk”, Andrew and I were planning to bring our shirts there. So, one day while we were there, we put on our Look Up Lodge shirts and took a couple pictures with them.
I hope you enjoyed our story and pictures! See you this summer!
~Sarah Garrett”

We had a great time with everyone that attended our Love Sex and Dating Conference over the weekend of Nov. 4. Don’t worry, if you missed this one, we have more! We have a Love Sex and Dating 2.0 Conference coming up January 6 through the 8. We highly recommend attending Love Sex and Dating “1.0″ before attending the 2.0 version. We also have another Love Sex and Dating Conference (1.0) coming up February 17 through the 19. Check it out now! We truly believe education in this area can change the course of a students life. Yes, we said their entire life. Many mistakes and mis-steps in this area have life long and marriage affecting consequences. We tackle these issues and more at the Love Sex and Dating Weekends we host. Hope to see you there….and who knows, there could be a summer staffer or two hanging around during these conferences….
If you attended on this weekend give us your thoughts!!
If you have ever attended one of our Love Sex and Dating Conferences, give us your thoughts too!!
A special thanks to www.jeremiahjonesmusic.com for letting us use his art in this video!
Summer Planning Retreat
Nov 16
We spend a good deal of time planning for the summers here at Look Up. For us this means a great deal of meetings. We meet on camp for a good many of our meetings. When we need a little change of scenery we meet at a local coffee shop or a local dining establishment. In addition to those meetings, we take two retreats per year. We call these retreats Summer Planning and Actualization Retreats, or SPAR. We usually go away once in the fall and once in the spring. This video is a quick peek at our fall SPAR that we went away on a few weeks ago. We take our program team which is made up of 6 people five full time and one part time. It is very helpful to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily work and focus on goals and dreams related to the summer. For three days we take up residency in a remote location and be as creative as humanly possible. The challenge for us is to settle in on what spiritual truths we believe would be very impactful, and then build a program that will effectively communicate those ideas. Generally this involves cereal, pistachios, and Leopard Forest Coffee. While going away I shot a little footage of just how dynamically exciting and entertaining it is to plan for the summer. Just in case you didn’t catch the joke, planning for 3 days straight is very hard and sometimes it seems to come to a stand-still. Did I mention we take lots of coffee? However, it is an unbelievably rewarding time for us. We get away and begin to really relive and rethink summers past and all that God has done and continues to do. We are very excited for next summer and all we believe God will do. We ask for your continued prayer and support as we try and be faithful with the time we have.
